Response to the DPP's consultation on assisted suicide

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was instructed by the Law Lords, in their judgement on the Debbie Purdy case (in July 2009), to issue a prosecuting policy on assisted suicide. The DPP issued an interim policy in September 2009, and held a public consultation on the policy.

The DPP will publish the final version of the policy in Spring 2010.

The Charter for Dignity at the End of Life

The Charter for Dignity at the End of Life calls for significant changes to be made to end-of-life care and is supported by former Minister for Health Reform, Lord Norman Warner. The Charter sets out 10 policy calls to improve end-of-life care, focusing on patient choice, control and access to services.

This booklet sets out rights at the end of life for patients and carers in the light of the End of Life Care Strategy and the Mental Capacity Act. It includes a foreword by Esther Rantzen.

Dying Alone report: A fear of dying alone

This report examines the impact that an increasing population of people living alone in old age is having on dying. The report looks at people's fears about dying and what needs to be done to ease these fears and ensure that elderly people living alone have access to appropriate end-of-life care.

Advance Decisions Toolkit

Dignity in Dying was commissioned by the Department of Health to produce this toolkit, which provides guidance for health professionals around Advance Decisions to refuse life-sustaining treatment, and the Mental Capacity Act.

The Dignity in Dying Report

The Dignity in Dying Report sets out the research and developments around assisted dying up to February 2006. The report is aimed at medical and legal professionals, academics, researchers and students who want to examine the facts behind the rapidly developing field of end-of-life law and decision-making.
