Research

This section summarises key research from the UK, Oregon state, Washington state, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Research on assisted dying demonstrates that:

  • both voluntary and non-voluntary euthanasia is being practiced in the UK;
  • the British public overwhelmingly supports assisted dying;
  • and where assisted dying is legal practice numbers have remained low, vulnerable groups have not been targeted or negatively impacted, and palliative care improves and is delivered to a high standard.

You can use this section to build your understanding of the evidence on assisted dying, for use in your studies, or to support our campaign by writing to MPs or responding to newspaper stories and comments. If you come across information or claims about assisted dying that are not featured in this section of the website, please get in touch and we will do our best to equip you with the evidence you need.
