Assisted dying is necessary…so are tolerance and respect.
I debated the issue of assisted dying last week with Robert Colquhoun from Care not Killing. Robert opened by describing the good deaths his grandparents and aunt experienced through good palliative care and support from their family. Robert went through the familiar arguments from Care not Killing; that assisted dying was unnecessary, dangerous and unethical. His anecdotes about the deaths of his grandparents and aunt were used to illustrate the argument that assisted dying was unnecessary.
